Question:
Can a Domino Dataset be mounted as a shared dataset while a snapshot is in progress?
We were attempting to mount dataset A.1 from project A into project B as a shared dataset. When we selected the dataset and clicked the button to mount it…nothing happened.
We checked dataset A.1 and noticed it had a snapshot in progress. There was apparently a problem with the snapshot, as it had been under creation for about 6 hours. It was stuck at 99% but the estimated time remaining continued to grow.
When we cancelled the snapshot, dataset A.1 was immediately visible as a shared dataset for project B.
Answer:
The answer to your question is no, a Domino dataset can not be mounted as a shared dataset while a snapshot is in progress.
It is by design - when provisioning a dataset as a mount for an execution, the status of that dataset/snapshot must be Active
. Once a snapshotting process initiates, it sets the status of that dataset/snapshot to Copying
and thus it will not be provisioned as an execution mount (until the copy is complete, and the status goes back to Active
).This is to prevent (to the best extent possible) concurrent writing and copying, which could cause confusion as to what data is actually copied over to a new snapshot if folks are actively writing to it.
